Drinking with your Eyes

Voga _300 with strawI admit it, I should know better and I should probably be in a 12-step program of some sort. NO, I am not talking about drinking too much. I am talking about the guilty pleasure of purchasing wine based on the look of the label and bottle. Show me a moon or a curvy interesting bottle and I’ve got my credit card out.

Comparison shot with pretty background _300VOGA Italia is like the wine whisperer of wine merchants. Their delicious and eye-catching wines have always been one of my favorites, but especially now since they have announced the addition of Baby VOGA Sparkling (think split size) to their already popular collection. The mini sized VOGA Sparkling offers wine lovers the taste of VOGA Sparkling everyone loves, but in a smaller, more transportable size. I can think of some very self-indulgent ways to use this smaller bottle, but in general it is perfect for picnics, events where you can bring your own wine, couch time consumption, wedding table favors and sampling.

c:disegnips18890_a.psBaby VOGA Sparkling comes from the Trentino region of Italy. It showcases a smooth and balanced taste with a bright citrus finish. This 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Grigio blend is crafted via the Charmat method. The Charmat method tends to produce larger bubbles and a less refined taste, but it this case the fullness of the wine’s fruit flavorings are lovely and the bubbles tickle the tongue. The golden colors delight the eye as aromas of white blossoms and ripe fruit dance on the tongue. It’s the complete package for the drinker who is looking for a not-so-serious sparkler that can be enjoyed with many types of foods or all by itself.

3 bootles _ 300According to the winemaker notes Volga Sparkling’s “…light golden color and fine perlage give way to aromas of white blossoms and ripe fruit. It is very smooth in the mouth with yummy, yeasty flavors and a citrusy finish. Perfect for entertaining.”

Champagne dreamstime_xs_27286504Pouring the samples of wine into a pair of gorgeous flutes for my friend and I to share we were pleasantly surprised by the soft flower nose. In the mouth we experienced a bit of sassy yeast flavor floating amongst the medium-large bubbles. The finish was dry and crisp, with a citrusy finish.

This is a perfect wine for people who have yet to learn their way around fancy sparklers, not so much for the true connoisseur. It’s a great introduction to sparkling wine. Much of our table conversation was on the look and feel of the smart packaging. I thing the ladies will like this more than the gents.

Packaged in a mini-version of VOGA’s unique award-winning bell-shaped bottle, it features a screw on top to keep the wine gently sparkling. It’s easy to open and re close. Baby VOGA Sparkling is available nationwide, for a suggested retail price of $5.99 for the 187 mL bottle. VOGA is available in hundreds of major cities in over 62 countries, and can be found in thousands of the world’s trendiest bars, restaurants and shops.

And finally, at 155 calories per bottle, portion control and calorie counting comes to mind as yet another bonus. It’s a winner in my book. My recommendation is to give it a try.
