Verasion Begins

I was at Thornton Winery last week tasting the 2010  releases with Jazz Manager Tonya Wake & Winemaker David Vergari.  On a hunch,  as I was leaving I strolled through the Syrah block looking for the first signs of verasion and Yippee …it’s here!  Winemaker David Vergari comfirms it, ” Yep, we’re now into veraison. It started over the weekend. We’ve just passed another milestone in the vintage.”  Verasion marks a significant point in the life of a grape. The grape begins to develop its appropriate color and starts to ripen. Harvest season is on its way!
